Peder Reinertsen, Klokker [sexton?] and prison teacher
“Klokker” Reinertsen was born Dec. 30, 1849 on Stord of parents Reinert Reinertsen Maeland and his wife Gunhild Lønning. Farmer in Etne.
At age 15 year he lived approximately a year and a half at land dealer Thorsen, Sunde in Sunnhordland [on Stord]. Then he moved to the Svandals school district in Sovde.
In 1867 he entered Stord school for teacher preparation, from which he graduated in the summer of 1869. After that he started his teaching in the circles of the well-known Haugian landlord Silseth in Toftvaag, where he was from 1869 to January 1870 when he was employed as a teacher at the Vea school district on Karmoy.
In 1872, he was employed as the 2nd in charge of Skudesneshavn United Higher and Lower General School, where he stayed until 1887 when he was appointed teacher and Klokker [lærerog klokker ] at Akershus national prison in Oslo. There he worked for 31½ years until he retired in 1919 at 69 years of age.
Upon his parting, he was awarded the Civil Service Council medallion for "long and deserving service in prison.”
[Then there follows a long excerpt from a newspaper article about his work.]
Besides his position, he worked for many years in Oslo Indremission [“inner mission”?]. He was also a member of the Haugian community and a member of the savings bank's affiliation for about 20 years, as he was in a row a member of the Brotherhood and its board of directors. He published a book in 1915: Outside And In Prison. He raised a family of eight, one of whom became an instructor at Norway’s West Point and was knighted.
