Helen E. Knudsen was born July 3, 1932, in Rosholt, SD. She was baptized and confirmed at Brandvold Lutheran Church, a country church her family attended her entire youth. She graduated from New Effington High School in 1950.

Helen attended nursing school at Concordia St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Fargo, ND. She graduated in 1953 after spending her final year of college in Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL.

Although they grew up only 20 miles apart, Helen met her future husband, Harland “Jake” Jacobson at a Lutheran National Youth Gathering in Saskatchewan, Canada. They married on June 27, 1954, in Brandvold Lutheran Church, Rosholt, SD.

Helen and Jake moved to Denver in 1956. Helen and Jake retired in Denver.

Helen’s hobbies included crafts and reading. She loved to cook and bake.
