Baptismal sponsors included “Hugo Zenke in Paderborn.” However his tombstone in New Salem, ND, records his birthdate as March 13, 1880. While still a boy in North Dakota, Hugo contracted an illness (likely scarlet fever) and died at age 13. It was said he was a pleasant, likeable lad.
