Mette said her approach to life was found in the words of the Norwegian painter and illustrator, Gerhard Munthe (1849-1929): “Love each other while walking together on the road of life.”

Graduated from Stord Teachers School in 1901. Then taught two years in Jondal, in Hardanger for four years, and two years in Gudbrandsdalen. Later he was a teacher and church singer in Ullensbang, and in 1911 employed as a Klokker in his hometown of Skaanevik.

He held a number of public positions: Mayor of Skånevik from 1917. Director of Skånevik Sparebank for 15 years, chairman of Sunnhordland's teachers group four years, chairman of the board of Skaånevik's central government in Hardanger, member of the Karmoy and Haugesunds Transport Committee, also appointed by the county council to several committees.
