In 1910, Emma (then age 18) and her sister’s children, Lottie and Frank, and their father, Lars, traveled from Norway to Edison, Washington, stopping off in South Dakota to visit the Gabriel Knudsen family. Gabriel, her older brother, had left Norway before she was born, so this was the first time they had ever seen each other.
