Lucy and Herbert were married at the Peace United Church of Christ in New Salem by Rev. E.O. Mueller. They dairy farmed northwest of New Salem until their retirement in 1968. In September of 1981 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Lucy was a farm wife. She enjoyed baking and flower gardening.
Following Herbert’s death, Lucy moved first to New Salem and by 1997 she was living at Marion Manor Home apartments in Glen Ullin, ND. In 2003 Lucy fell in that nursing home and broke her leg. She was taken to a hospital in Bismarck, the leg was stabilized and she was returned to the Glen Ullin Nursing Home where she was made comfortable until her death two days later.
Lucy was a classy lady who enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved to garden and care for her flowers. She was a superb cook and treasured any opportunity to entertain guests in her home or to attend social events in her community. She served faithfully as president of the Peace Church Women's Guild for many years and also as a youth leader for the Farmers Union of Morton County.
