Henry came to New Salem by train at the age of three with his parents in 1887. After his marriage, he and his wife took over the farm from his parents, who moved into New Salem. In January of 1947 Henry and Frieda themselves moved into a new home in New Salem, leaving the management of their farm to their son Elmer.
