Misc. Notes
Many knew Elina as “Auntie” or “Lady”.

In April of 2014, Annette Windh James wrote the following, which she had learned from her mother Lavina Windh.

Auntie Elaina married Matt 1 year ahead of when Lavina and Milton married (1947). Matt worked in a mill and went to the same church and that's how they met. Auntie Elina must've been in her mid 50's by then.

So the story goes that Auntie had two fiancées at the same time.....for years! One from S. Dakota, Carl ---and then the one she finally married, Matt Johnson.

Carl, the beau from S. Dakota, would come out every winter and stay in Tacoma at their boarding house...which happened to be the same place that fiancée #2 lived. Beau #2, aka Matt Johnson, knew about #1 but we don't know if #1 knew about #2.  Can you imagine??

She told Matt Johnson that she would marry him only after #1 died as she didn't want to hurt his feelings.

So Great Grandpa & Ma Oswood bought a house in Tacoma; and Auntie Elina, mom thinks, also added some $ and ran the place as a boardinghouse. Renting out bedroom upstairs and providing meals, wash etc. Besides that Auntie was the main cook for a restaurant in Tacoma.

Mom said that the house was always full of either boarders, family or and in addition to friends from church. So a few of those photos taken outside in front of the house probably has a combination of all. Mom says that at any time of day there was soup, oyster stew and always desserts ready for who would show up. She was generous to a fault and loved having family over.

I commented to my mom....wow Elina did all of this and still worked outside of the home. Mom said she was a very hard worker and must have enjoyed it as she never complained.

I have memories of going there as a young kid, 5 yrs old.........and there was candy in many candy dishes.......I remember the big sparkly chandelier over the dining room table. But most of all I remember her big hugs, enclosing you in those big arms and chest.
