Raymond and Mildred were the last couple to be married in the "old" Peace Church before it was sold the the Catholics and a new church constructed.

Ray's musical interests began at the age of 10, while singing and playing the banjo and accordion with his family's band, the Dry
Weather Rangers. He served as a medic in the U.S. Navy during World War II at Pend Oreille Lake near Coerur d'Alene, ID, and sang in the Blue Jackets Choir. He later led the Ray Heid Orchestra and played his bass fiddle in many groups, including the El Zagal Plainsmen and Doc Lindlow's Dixie Land Band. He delighted in impromptu jam sessions with visiting musicians and received the Bismarck-Mandan Jazz Association Musician of the Year Award in 1994. While in Bismarck, Ray was a member of Thursday Music Club and the Musicians' Union (he earned a Gold Card). He was a Mason and a member of the El Zagal Shrine.
Ray's first teaching job was in the Watford City Schools where he taught music and tried his hand at selling insurance. He also
served as the Watford City auditor and the Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the U.S. Office of Rent Stabilization of Williston, ND. He then was a high school principal in Fairview, Montana ,and directed the church choir.
He and his family moved to Bismarck in 1954 where he directed the First Lutheran Church Choir and taught at Bismarck High School (Government and Economics) and Bismarck Jr. College (Sociology and Social Science). He was president of the Draft Board in Bismarck, ND, during the Viet Nam War. His family can remember many suppers interrupted by phone calls from family members who didn't want their sons drafted. In 1975, Ray made headlines of Who Is Who in North Dakota.

Raymond died at the St. Alexius Hospital following unsuccessful surgery for a cancerous tumor on his lung. Regardless of what activity he was involved in, Ray enjoyed life to the fullest.
