Eckie was a shop teacher for years in Dickinson, ND. He then started teaching German. His mother, Bertha Riedel Heid, baked cookies for the German classes which were loved by all.

Della was an organist at the Congregational Church, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and our at Savior's Lutheran Church, all in Dickinson, ND.

She received many honors and distinctions in music, such as Piano Scholarship with Rudolph Ganz, Chicago Musical College; State President of ND Music Education Association; State President of ND Federation of Music Clubs; Elected to "Who's Who", NFMC, First Edition. She also won awards from the Foreign Language Study Leagues, Salt Lake City, Utah. and from Dickinson State College Music Alumni Association "for her contributions toward the development and growth of the Division of Music." Also the Golden Moccasin Award from Dickinson State University.

Della also taught piano privately to many grade and high school students and played the piano and organ for weddings, funerals, and community and family events. She belonged to many organizations such as Nu Phi Epsilon Fraternity, Chapter B P.E.O., St. Cecelia Music Club, NDEA, NEA, MENC, Delta Kappa Gamma and was a charter member of the Zonta Club and A.A.U.W.

Della was the youngest of four children. Her family lived near Dalesberg (15 miles north of Vermillion, SD) until 1923. They then moved to Vermillion where Della graduated from high school and the University of South Dakota.

She died at at the St. Luke's Home in Dickinson, ND.
