Misc. Notes
Marie E. Hanson, 75, New Salem, passed away July 23, 2018, at Sanford Health, Bismarck. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, at Zion Lutheran Church, New Salem, with The Rev. Russell Fitch officiating. Committal will be held at Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Marie Ellen Golde was born on May 26, 1943. Her parents, Arthur and Hilda (Heid) Golde, brought Marie and her brother, Clyde, to baptism on May 5, 1946. She was confirmed through Zion Lutheran Church, as was her baptism. Marie attended the New Salem Public School. She worked as a waitress, was a great seamstress, cook, and baker. Marie married Warren Thiel on Dec. 27, 1959, and they had three sons. They lived in Judson and enjoyed the little community there.
Marie married David Hanson on Jan. 28, 1972, and they had five children. Other than living in Montana for a while, they always lived in the New Salem area. The family loved the Montana scenery, fishing, and camping, so vacation time took them back there once in a while. The family enjoyed North Dakota fishing as well, so they could often be found at the river. Marie especially enjoyed family get-togethers. She also enjoyed bird watching, something she could do from her kitchen window or deck. This was a blessing as her health declined.
Marie’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were very special to her; she had a special place in her heart for each one. Family and relatives were important to her. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a smile to go along with it. Marie had a big heart. She also had a heart for the Lord and was thankful for the faith He had given her. She was grateful to her son, Daniel, for taking her to church when she could no longer drive.
On May 26, 2018, Marie’s children surprised her with a 75th birthday party. It was a special time for the whole family and all who attended, and will remain a special memory for everyone.
Marie is already missed by her family which includes, Mark, Marty, and Mitch (Lori) Thiel; David (Shelly), Larry, Andrew (Kim), and Daniel Hanson; her foster son, Myron Chase and his family; all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her mother, Hilda; sister-in-law, Hazel Golde; sister, Carleen (Larry) Christian; brothers, Duane (Sherry), and Jim (Jean) Golde, and families.
Marie was preceded in death by her husbands, Warren Thiel and David Hanson; father, Arthur Golde; her grandparents; brother, Clyde Golde; and baby, Jolene Hanson.
