NEW SALEM - Frieda Engelter, 98, New Salem, died July 29, 2007, while a resident of Elm Crest Manor, New Salem. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Peace Church, New Salem. Burial will be in Peace Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Elm Crest Manor and continues Wednesday one hour prior to services at the church.
Frieda was born Nov. 9, 1908, in New Salem, the daughter of Max and Martha (Kling) Hoherz. She was one of six children in the family and was raised on the farm North of New Salem. Frieda married Charles Engelter Jan. 17, 1929, on the Hoherz farm. After their marriage, they rented a farm from relatives located north of New Salem until they purchased the "home place" from Frieda's parents.
Frieda enjoyed fishing, gardening and preparing her family's favorite German pastries. Also special to her were old-time music and dancing. Winters were devoted to quilting, knitting and crocheting items for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Robert (Naomi) Engelter, New Salem, Betty (Norbert) Hoesel, New Salem, Lester Engelter, Sheridan, Wyo., and Gloria Kitzmann, New Salem; six grandchildren, Joana (Duane) Friesz and Lee (Margi) Engelter, all of New Salem, Les (Jodi) Hoesel, Mandan, Lynn (Melodie) Hoesel, New Salem, Brad (Leaha) Kitzmann, Leeds, and Brian Kitzmann, Sheridan, Wyo.; and nine great-grandchildren, Taylor and Thomas Friesz, Jacob and Raymond Engelter, Austin, Hope and Megan Hoesel, and Clay and Keira Kitzmann. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles, in 1984; her brothers Bill, Albert and Fred; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Amy and Paul Bueligen and Anne and Harold Freise.
