Shirley Torkelson, 84, died July 23, 2012, at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena.
Shirley Leona Johnson was born on Oct. 5, 1927 to Sigval and Marie Johnson of Elbow Lake. She grew up there and graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1945.
She married Wesley Torkelson on Oct. 21, 1945. They lived in rural Henning after their marriage. They were blessed with three children, Steven, Ann, and Lora. She was a stay-at-home wife and mother. She loved to sew, bake, bowl, and can the produce her husband grew in his garden. In later years she enjoyed watching the Twins.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years, a daughter, Ann Anderson, and her three sisters: baby Mary Ann, Ethel Barty, and Bernice Kuekn.
She will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Wesley Torkelson, 83, of Henning, died Monday Oct. 27, 2008, at his home.
Wesley Vernon Torkelson was born in Sunberg, March 26, 1925, the son of Henry and Alice Babcock. They moved to Henning in 1936 and Wesley started school at District 200 and finished his schooling in Henning, graduating from Henning High School in 1942.
He married Shirley Johnson on Oct. 21, 1945, at Hjerdahl Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake.
They farmed in Henning Township until retiring in 2003. He had also worked for F.R. Steuart Plumbing and Heating until 1974, when his son bought the heating business from F.R. Steuart. He worked for his son until 1995. He was a deacon at Trinity Lutheran Church in Henning until it merged with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was an active member of Good Shepherd.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter: Ann Marie Torkelson) Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; a son, Steven (Pat) Torkelson, Henning; a daughter, Lora Sutter, Green Isle; and a son-in-law, Jerry Anderson, of Virginia, Minn.; four grandchildren, Christina (Torkelson) Hammer, Jon W. Torkelson, Edward Anderson, and Karla Sutter; two great-grandchildren, Ann Marie and Jenna Rose Hammer; three sisters, Melba Bakken, Alexandria, Althea (Ernest) Deckert, Henning, and Charlotte Deckert, Henning; and many nieces and nephews.
