Celia "Stevi" Landis, 78, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, after a lengthy and gracious challenge with Alzheimer's.

Celia was the youngest of three children, born to William and Selena Gimbel on July 16, 1935, in Menno, SD. At the age of six, the family moved to Rapid City. Celia graduated from Rapid City High School in 1953. She continued to be a strong Cobbler fan cheering for her children and grandchildren. Throughout high school, she began employment as a telephone operator in 1952 for 13 years.

On Feb. 7, 1955, Celia married the love of her life and truly devoted husband. As a young couple, they moved to Philadelphia, PA, for one year before returning to Rapid City. Together they had six children. Celia was a stay-at-home mom with a fun sense of humor. At an early age of approximately 58 years old, Celia began her journey with Alzheimer's.

Survivors include her husband, Bernard "Bud" Landis, Rapid City; daughters Theresa Landis-Jacob, Rapid City, Kathleen "Kathy" Landis, Chesapeake, Va., and Cynthia Landis, Sturgis; sons Bernard "Mike" (Ellen) Landis, Korea, and John Landis, Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren, Tyler L. Jacob, Rapid City, Devin (Ben) Jacob-Hunter, Germany, Justin (Allison) Landis, Florida, Selena (Jeremy) Landis-Krampota, TX, Cecily Landis, North Carolina, Alex Cook, Rapid City, Zachary Landis, Arizona, and Ryan Landis, Washington; and one great-grandson,
Jacob Thomas Hunter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Selena Gimbel; sister, Marilyn Gimbel Maurstad; and brother Bill Gimbel.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with 7 p.m. Christian wake services Friday, Jan. 17, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

A Christian Funeral Mass will be offered at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Cathedral, with the Rev. Michel Mulloy presiding. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
