Earlier, Mr. Flickinger had married Mrs. Frances Edmundson Smith in Las Vegas on March 15, 1941, as noted in the Bakersfield Californian on March 17, 1941.

FLICKINGER-SMITH WEDDING EVENT IN LAS VEGAS in 1941

In the wedding Saturday night at 9:30 o’clock in Las Vegas of Mrs. Frances Edmundson Smith and Jacob Chambers Flickinger, two of Bakersfleld's best known and prominent residents were united by the Reverend Ford Gilbert, pastor of First Methodist Church in that city. The bride and bridegroom were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Frank DIgler, of Stockdale. Mr. Digier is co-owner with Mr. Flickinger of Flickinger-Digier Chapel, one of Bakersfield's old established mortuaries. The two couples returned Sunday vla Boulder Dam. A wedding supper was held after the ceremony at a restuarant outside the Nevada city.

On Tuesday evening Mrs. Digier is receiving for 40 guests at a party honoring the bride, at her Stockdale home. The couple are living at Mr.
Flickinger's former abode, 1227 Chester Avenue.

The bride, a resident of Marshall, Texas, until coming here a few years ago, is a member of the Eastern Star in Texas, and is active in the Women's Division of Christian Service in First Methodist Church here. She is the mother of a voung Log Angeles matron, Mrs. Paul Rosenbaum.

An email in June 2010 from Jim Mandaville tells that his great grandfather was buried in 1923 by the Flickinger Mortuary in Bakersfield (sometimes shown as "Dixon-Flickinger") and that for a long time this was one of the better known mortuary establishments in Bakersfield. The J. C. Flickinger that Minnie married late in life may have been a member of the family that founded or operated it. Her burial in Union Cemetery in Bakersfield in 1953 was arranged by the Armstrong-Flickinger Mortuary. A quick Google search now suggests that there is no Flickinger or Dixon mortuary operating in Bakersfield today.
