Harriet M. Wallin, 94, formerly of Hebron, North Dakota, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021, at St. Gabriel’s Community in Bismarck.
Harriet was born January 27, 1927, to Charles and Pauline (Heid) Freise in New Salem, North Dakota. She graduated from New Salem High School and Interstate Business College, Bismarck.
On September 3, 1949, she married Keith Wallin. They were blessed with four children. In 1951, they moved to Hebron and opened Wallin Studio, later changed to Wallin Photography, serving Hebron and surrounding areas for the next 45 years. Harriet worked in many aspects of the business including hand tinting black and white photographs, assisting with photographic darkroom work, accounting, and other business operations. She accompanied Keith to weddings and other events, with a keen eye for spotting a crooked tie.
Harriet was an active member of St. John United Church of Christ, Hebron, the American Legion Auxiliary, Hebron Business Club, and Homemakers. She enjoyed creating quilts, cross stitched pieces, and other crafts for family and friends. She loved to grow vegetables and flowers in her large gardens, was an avid reader, and appreciated the beauty of the United States during many camping trips with family. Harriet treasured each grand child and great-grand child as the Wallin family expanded.
She will be missed by her loving family: two sons, Craig (Rita) Wallin, Glen Ullin, and John (Darlene) Wallin, Eden Prairie Minnesota; two daughters, Claudia (Wayne) Byre, Walford, Iowa, and Pam (Mike) Jennings, Atkins, Iowa; sister Eunice (Chuck) Kjaer, Eugene, Oregon; brother-in-law George (Ginny) Wallin, West Jordan, Utah; nine grandchildren including Jessica (Scott) Glovich, Melanie (Tim) Bruestle, Jeff (Carrie) Wallin, Aaron (Amy) Jennings, Kyle Jennings, Lindsay (Nate) Montague, Kristin, (Bryan) Simmons, Amanda (Matt) Haapakoski, Brady (Chasidy) Byre; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Keith; and two brothers, Harold and Hubert Freise.

Keith H. Wallin formerly of Hebron, North Dakota, died Sunday morning, March 4, 2018, at Sanford Heath, Bismarck, due to an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Ruth (Rognrud) Wallin and sisters Bea Graham and Jan Kunz.
Keith was a 1941 graduate of Sterling High School. During World War II, Keith was inducted into the Army and served in the Signal Company of the 78th Infantry Division. He volunteered to join the 311th Regiment radio team. The 78th Division was at the Battle of the Bulge. Later his team was on special assignment with the Armored Tank Company and was one of the first to cross the Rhine River. This event led to the end of World War II. He was discharged in 1946.
He worked at Conrad Publishing as a reporter and news photographer from 1946-1949. He married Harriet Freise Sept. 3,1949. They moved to Kansas City, Missouri where Keith studied photography.
In 1951, they moved to Hebron and opened Wallin Studio, later changed to Wallin Photography, serving; Hebron, Richardton, Glen Ullin, Dickinson, and surrounding areas for the next 45 years. In the early days, black and white film was used. All processing and printing were finished in his own dark rooms. Keith was known far and wide for his wonderful ability to capture important events for families across the region, from weddings, anniversaries, and confirmations to high school seniors, school music and sporting events, church directories, and even cattle drives. Today, the early photography equipment is on loan and displayed at the Hebron Museum.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 8, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan, with The Rev. Gaylund Olson officiating. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Keith was born April 17, 1923, in Minneapolis to George and Ruth (Rognrud) Wallin. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1941.
During World War II, Keith was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in the Signal Company of the 78th Infantry Division. He volunteered to join the 311th Regiment radio team. He was a member of the Hebron Business Club, Boy Scout Council, Hebron Lions, Hebron Legion (Life Member), Hospital Board, fire department as photographer attending fires, and N.D. Photographers Association.
Keith is survived by his beloved wife, Harriet; two sons, Craig (Rita Thomas), Glen Ullin, and John (Darlene Rittmiller), Eden Prairie, Minn.; two daughters, Claudia (Wayne) Byre, Walford, Iowa, and Pamela (Mike) Jennings, Atkins, Iowa; his sister, LaVonne Althoff, Austin, Colo., and brother, George (Ginny) Wallin Jr., West Jordan, Utah; nine grandchildren including Jessica (Scott) Glovich, Aaron (Amy) Jennnings, Melanie (Tim) Bruestle, Kristin (Bryan) Simmons, Amanda (Matt) Haapakoski, Jeffrey (Carrie) Wallin, Kyle Jennings, Brady Byre, and Lindsay (Nate) Montague; eighteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth Wallin; and sisters, Bea Graham and Jan Kunz.
