NameAnna ANNIE ANDERSON
BurialRiverside Cemetery, Breckenridge, MN
Birth24 Nov 1892, Sweden
Death7 Mar 1927, Breckenridge, Minnesota
Misc. Notes
Henry’s first wife, Charlotte, died in 1919, and he married Anna Anderson, who had been his housekeeper. In the 1910 US census record, she is working in the household of Henry and Charlotte Torkelson. She is identified as a "hired girl," so she likely was helping with the housework and the children. She had been born in Sweden and apparently came to the US as an infant.
Henry and Annie had no children. But she may have died in 1927 as the result of an "extra-uterine pregnancy."

Misc. Notes
Henry was born in Norway and came with his parents to the US as an infant. In Norway, his would perhaps have been known as
Hellik Torkilssen Fjose where Fjose is a placename. His father may have been called Ole Torkilssen Fjose, and his mother Gunbjod Kittildsdatter (from his baptism record of March 20, 1870). That same record shows he was born March 11, 1870, not in 1871 as on his gravestone.
Fjose may be the place name of a farm in the vacinity of Buskerud, some 35 miles southwest of Trondheim in Norway.
Henry had two sons by his first wife, Charlotte Hohenshell (who died before 1920). Those sons were raised by Henry and Annie, his second wife.
He is with his parents and grandfather in the 1880 US census record.

Henry Ole Torkelson was the son of Ole Torkelson and Gerena Kittildsdatter. Born in Norway, he came with his parents and paternal grandfather to the USA when he was an infant. He is with his parents and grandfather in the 1880 US census record.
The Norwegian names are challenging for us. For example, Henry's original name apparently was Hellik Torkilssen Fjose; his father was Ole Torkilssen Fjose; and his mother was Gunbjod Kittildsdatter (taken from his baptism record). Note that according to this record, he was born on 11 Mar 1870, not 11 Mar 1871 as given on the gravestone; and he was baptized on 20 Mar 1870. On arrival in the USA, his parents adapted their names to American conventions.
The family settled in Illinois. The 1880 US census record was collected in Mission, La Salle, IL. Henry was confirmed by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America on 25 Nov 1883 in Norway, an unincorporated community in Mission Township, La Salle, IL.
On 28 Feb 1894 in Grundy County, IL, he married Charlotte Hohenshell. They had four children: George Clarence Torkelson (1894-1963); Henry Roosevelt Torkelson (1901-1992); Oscar Daniel Torkelson (1904-1984); and Gladys Irene Torkelson (1906-1989).
Charlotte died in 1919, and he married Anna Anderson, who had been his housekeeper. They are in the 1920 census record as a married couple
