Funeral services for the Rev. Dr. Jens C. Kjaer, 52, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church and a history instructor, will be at 2 o'clock tomorrow in the church. Burial will be in Pacific Lutheran under the direction of the Columbia Funeral Home. Dr. Kjaer died Saturday of a heart attack. He had been pastor of St. John's ten years.

Born in Denmark, Dr. Kjaer came to this country in 1927. He attended Grandview Theological Seminary, Des Moines, Iowa: the Chicago Lutheran Theological Seminary; Midland College, Fremont, Neb., and the Central Lutheran Theological Seminary in Fremont.

DR. KJAER received a master's degree in history from the University of Oklahoma and a doctorate from the University of Washington in 1952. From 1931 until 1942 Dr. Kjaer was a pastor in Clinton, Iowa. In 1942 he became an Army chaplain. For the past ten years he had been a chaplain in the Army Reserve and was active in the Reserve Officers' Association. Dr. Kjaer had been an instructor in Scandinavian Ianguages and literature at the University of Washington from 1948 until 1950 and in 1954. He was the author of various historical books on Danes and the Danish church.

Dr. Kjaer was president of District 9. American Evangelical Lutheran Church, and a member of the Lutheran Pastors' Association and the Ecumenical Council and the Home Mission Board of the American Evangelical Lutheran Church.

DR. KJAER is survived by his wife, Maria, and a daughter Sonja Kjaer, at the home,; a son Capt. George Kjaer, an Army physician at Fort Bragg, N.C.; his father, Martinus Kjaer, and four brothers and four sisters in Denmark, and two grandchildren.
